Prevention and Restoration

Because each patient's needs are different, you should check with us to see what's appropriate for you. Typically, oral hygiene visits are scheduled for every six months.

Sealants

Your teeth are covered with a sticky film of bacteria, called plaque. Plaque bacteria use sugar and starch in food as a source of energy. The bacteria convert the sugar or starch into harmful acids that attack tooth enamel for as long as 20 minutes or more. Repeated attacks may cause the enamel to break.

A sealant is a plastic material that is usually applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth - premolars and molars. This plastic resin bonds into the depressions and grooves (pits and fissures) of the chewing surfaces of back teeth. The sealant acts as a barrier, protecting enamel from plaque and acids.

Although veneers and laser whitening can help make your smile whiter and brighter, regular visits to Dr. Hogg can ensure a healthy smile by helping you fight tooth decay and periodontal disease. Dr. Hogg and Associates offers a full line of dental services utilizing high tech, modern procedures designed to bring you the most comfortable, pain free dental experience possible.

Tooth Prints Program

We provide a service to help identify missing children. It consists of a soft thermo-plastic wafer that your child bites into. This records the child's bite, DNA samples from the saliva, and is a source of scents for tracking police dogs to work with in the event that your child is ever reported missing. The tooth prints are sealed in a plastic bag and given to the parents for their safekeeping and peace of mind.

Invisalign Braces

We offer a cosmetic alternative to the conventional braces that utilize wires and brackets. This procedure is available for adolescents and adults and is virtually invisible. We take digital pictures and impressions of your mouth and send them to our orthodontic lab. They develop a computerized image of your teeth and can show you in the office the changes your smile will make from start to finish. The patient is given a series of custom fit plastic trays that are placed over the teeth for two weeks at a time. Dr. Hogg was so impressed with the procedure that he is currently under treatment to straighten his teeth.

Painless Dentistry

We will discuss with you the different types of technologies that will ensure a comfortable dental experience.

For your comfort, I try to build a personal relationship with each of my patients. You will be encouraged to express your dental wants and needs. Once your trust has been earned, we utilize the latest technologies to make your visit as comfortable and time efficient as possible. To further ensure a pleasant experience we use topical anesthetics, nitrous oxide (laughing gas), extremely high speed rotary instruments, and stereo head phones for your listening enjoyment.

Fillings

Our office uses "tooth colored" hardened plastic fillings for restoring the tooth after the cavity is removed. They are aesthetically pleasing to the eye when the old black and silver fillings wear out. The composite (plastic) fillings have the extra advantage of bonding the remaining tooth structure together and thereby further strengthening your teeth.

Crowns and Bridges

This is the area that Dr. Hogg taught in at the University of Illinois College of Dentistry. In the event that your remaining tooth structure is not strong enough to support additional filling material, a crown (cap) may be necessary to restore your teeth. These lab fabricated crowns have a durable understructure of gold, platinum, and palladium for strength and porcelain on the outside for superior aesthetics.

If the patient is missing one or more teeth, a permanent "fixed" bridge can be used to replace these missing teeth. The bridge is attached to the remaining bridge on either side of the missing teeth. This bridge is permanently cemented onto the teeth and does not need to be taken out at night.

Dentures and Removable Partials

Our office has had extensive experience in the area of dentures. We strive to produce the best possible functioning dentures. In addition, we use high quality denture teeth that give a natural looking appearance to the patient's smile. Removable partial dentures can be used to replace multiple missing teeth. We can use these to prevent denture movement even if there are only two teeth left in the mouth.

Root Canals

The great news about root canals is that teeth that previously would have to be extracted can now be saved! Root canals have been dreaded by patients as a last resort treatment. The truth is that we have more patients that fall asleep during this procedure than any other that we perform. Because of high tech dental equipment, many root canals can be finished in one visit saving patients from multiple visits. The diseased nerve canal is cleaned and the sealed to prevent reinfection.
