Sleep Apnea and Snoring

Do you snore or live with someone that does?

This could be a symptom of a dangerous disorder known as
Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

  • Approximately 40% of people over the age of 40 snore
  • As you get older and gain more weight your risks increase
  • Men are more often affected than women up until the age of menopause when there is equal gender distribution
  • Men and women of any age or weight can snore because of abnormal airway openings
  • It is estimated that 18 million people in the United States are affected by Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

Snoring Defined

When the jaw opens and the tongue falls into the back of the throat, the airway narrows forcing air through the small opening. This creates vibrations in the throat known as snoring. Although snoring seems physically harmless, it can be a "red flag" for a more serious and sometimes fatal condition called obstructive sleep apnea.
